Chores

As I mentioned a couple of days ago, I have 2 episodes of "Desperate Housewives" that I need to watch. Why does it feel like a chore to make the time to watch them? I thought I would do it yesterday after I got off work, but it just seemed like too much work to watch them. Obviously I taped the episodes because I want to see them so why is it taking me so long to watch them? Have you ever noticed that when you have to do something, you no longer want to do it?

This week I started a new position at work which requires me to be at work at 8 a.m. which therefore requires me to get up at 6 a.m. Most days I will get up with Mr when he gets up for work. Sometimes he has to get up super early--like 5 a.m.--and I won't get up then, but most days it's somewhere between 6 and 6:30. I will usually get up, but now that I have to get up at 6, I don't want to.

The same thing applies when you're not allowed to do something. Like when you're on a diet and you shouldn't eat those 2 cookies, but all of the sudden, an overwhelming compulsion takes over that says "I must eat those cookies NOW!" If you were allowed to eat them, you probably wouldn't even want them. You know when you see a "Wet Paint. Do not touch" sign and you have an overwhelming need to touch it just to be sure the paint is really wet? I don't know what it is in human nature, but we simply must do what we are told we can't. Why is that?
