First day of spring!

Yes, it's officially spring as of 7 something this morning. How do they know exactly when spring begins? Instead of just saying March 20th, they have to put a time to it. Cracks me up.

I am headed to the ear, nose and throat dr. this afternoon after a wasted trip to the regular dr. yesterday. She thinks I have a virus so no antibiotics. Telling her that this has lasted for 2 weeks already didn't seem to persuade her that it was anything more than viral. However, I still can't hear correctly out of one of my ears. She couldn't see anything but wax (ew, gross) so she suggested the ENT dr. I kinda wish I'd just gone to him first. Anyway, I'm not looking forward to the appt. today if they have to do wax extraction (ew, gross #2). I don't know if you've ever had that done, but sometimes it hurts--bad--and other times it's just a very weird feeling because your ear, nose, throat are all connected so if something comes out of one of them, you feel it in the others (triple gross). A very weird sensation to say the least.

I'm feeling extremely guilty because I have only worked out one day this week because I've felt so bad. I'm making myself workout today before the dr. appt. even if it's just a light workout. The guilt is killing me!

Hope everyone has good weather wherever you are for this first day of spring!

How I spent my weekend

So this is basically how I spent my weekend. I had a wicked sore throat that started late Friday night. When I woke up on Saturday, it was full-blown. Every time I swallowed it felt like razor blades in my throat. It was also in my neck so I figured I was well on my way to strep throat and had Mr look down my throat for white stuff. Thankfully, none ever came. Yesterday I still felt bad and slept almost all afternoon. When I woke up late afternoon, my sore throat and accompanying neck pain were gone. Today I'm feeling pretty good but still a little weak. Hopefully it's gone, but I'm going to take it kinda easy today just to be sure. It really sucks being sick, especially when Saturday was the prettiest day we've had so far.

In addition, last night we had our first tornado scare. The whole area was under a tornado watch or warning. While we were under the warning, it got a little scary here. Mr and I went outside to watch the sky and for a brief moment, it appeared there was a funnel trying to form. I'm terrified of tornados so thankfully the scare was brief, but I can't believe we're already having to worry about them this early into the season.

Wacky weather

We had another weird weather event here yesterday. We were under a severe thunderstorm warning and some areas were under a tornado watch. After seeing that there was a rainbow in the area, I grabbed my camera and ran outside. Apparently, I missed the rainbow, but got these weird cloud formations instead.

Mr has been out of town since Monday so it was a little scary being here last night by myself during the wind. I've been afraid of storms ever since I was little. My typical storm routine is to get all of my irreplaceables, namely my wedding rings, camera, photos, dog, husband (if he's home) and head to the basement. I got smart and have moved all of my photos, except for the wedding pictures, down to the basement already. It was becoming quite a process to haul them down every storm so I decided to leave them down there. Yesterday's actual storm was so short, I barely got downstairs and it was over. The wind continued all night, though.

I've joined a photographer's group. Have you all heard of this website called meetup.com? I recently got turned onto it and discovered this group here in my area. I've been intimidated to join it because it's a combination of professional photographers and amateurs like me, but even their discussion boards are talking about things I have no idea about. They are doing a shoot in March at an area that we will be told right before the shoot and then we will have 15 min. to survey the area to set up our shots and then 2 minutes per photog to shoot our photos. I'm very nervous mainly because of my lack of experience. I figure there's no way to solve the lack of experience problem except to get more experience so I'm going, but I'm still very nervous. I'll be sure and let you know how it turns out.

Thawing out

Well, it seems the storm has passed...at least for a little while. There's supposed to be another front coming in soon, but I don't think it's supposed to pack the punch that this one did. Mr cleared off the driveway last night--quite the chore, I might add. He left for work this morning. I miss him because he's been working from home for the past 2 days. It was nice having him here with me during the day.

Tonight is supposed to be my first photography class. Although I've been excited about it for weeks, due to the weather, I'm hoping it will be cancelled. Where the school is located is on a hill. I'm sure the roads will be a lot better today, but it's going to be nighttime when I travel and I'm not exactly sure where I'm going. Plus, I don't like going to Cincinnati. It scares me...especially at night...especially alone. I certainly don't want to miss a class, though. There's only 6 so every one counts. I'll let you know what happens.

Here is a picture of Daisy, thrown in for fun. This was the first day of "Winter Storm 2009". Like the video, you can see she was really torn up about the weather.

What it was like here today

My artsy fartsy shot of the snow.

Another artsy fartsy snow shot. I was bored...what can I say?

Daisy is all distraught over the snow and ice we've had today.

The White Death cometh and the White Death goeth

Yesterday we were supposed to have a "winter storm". We were under a winter advisory all day. Snow was expected to be anywhere from 1 to 3 inches or 3 to 5 inches--depending on which channel you watched. Sleet and freezing rain was predicted in the afternoon. It started snowing to beat the band late morning--huge, big snowflakes coming down at a fast rate. Me, being the person who can't drive in the snow at all and freaks out every time it snows, went home early from work because I was so afraid it would keep getting worse and I wouldn't be able to get home at all. I mean, 3 to 5, freezing rain, sleet...you do the math. I got home and about 10 minutes after I made it here, it quit snowing and didn't snow again the rest of the day. The freezing rain and sleet--never saw it.

Now I know meteorology is an inexact science. They look at the jet streams and whatever else they say they watch, but come on. How can you be so wrong? This morning we were supposed to wake up to the results of the freezing rain and sleet we were getting overnight. So guess what we had this morning--you guessed it, nothing. I'm certainly not wishing for bad weather, but this is ridiculous. I'm super ticked that I lost out on 4 hours' worth of work yesterday for nothing. Not to mention, I looked like the biggest wimp in the world because I was the only one who left early. Even the woman who works with us who is over 60 stayed. Imagine how that makes me look? Next time, I am going to tough it out. Meteorologists be damned!
