Weekend Warrior...not!

Sorry I wasn't such a good blogger over the weekend. Boy child left to go back to Italy on Saturday morning and we had one last hurrah on Friday night that lasted until 4:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. Yes, you would think I was old enough to know better than to stay out that late, but apparently I wasn't. Getting up later on Saturday morning to take him to the airport was no fun for any of us, especially him! Needless to say, Mr and I hardly moved from the couch and the recliner on Saturday. Yesterday was better, but when you stay up that late at our age, it takes a couple of days to get caught up. Thankfully I didn't drink a ton or it would've been even worse.

I've been working diligently trying to get Grandma's pictures scanned in for her video. I have 25 albums that my aunt loaned me so it's been time-consuming going through each and every one of them to choose pictures. I have one more box of albums to go through and then I'll be done. I have had such a ball going through them, though.

It has inspired me to get my own photos in order. I thought I was doing pretty good on keeping my pictures organized, but my aunt is super organized--each album by year and just the fact that they're all in albums. Now I have a new project to work on that I've been wanting to do for quite a while.

I haven't been doing much cooking lately, although if I don't have to work tonight, I'm making dinner since I have some new recipes I want to try. I did make hamburgers last week that were super yummy. They were BBQ burgers and had BBQ sauce in them. There were other ingredients, but they were so moist and yummy. Let me know if you want the recipe.

I've also been visiting my favorite store, Hobby Lobby. We needed a centerpiece for our coffee table that sits low enough that we can still see the tv. Since these usually cost a fortune, I decided I would make one myself. The key is to go to HL when things are half off. They run sales every single week. If silk flowers aren't on sale this week, they will be next week. Plus, I'm signed up for their email notifications so I get sent a 40% off a regular-priced item coupon most weeks as well. Here's a couple of pictures of the arrangement.

While I was at work last night, Mr was busy. Here is our new end table that he put together.

He also hung a new picture over our bed. Please ignore the unmade bed below. I just took the picture this morning and it's still early so it's not made.

Olympic gold

So, did you stay up late last night and watch the sand volleyball finals? The USA kicked China's butt. I couldn't believe it was on so late, but I was so glad I got to see it. It was awesome. If you get a chance to watch a rerun, watch it. It was great.

Test update

All of my tests came back normal. They want me to go get a stress test and followup with a cardiologist. I think he's just covering his butt. I really don't want to do another stress test. Have you ever had one? I think the real test is whether you live through it or not. If you live, you pass; if you die or have a heart attack, you fail. They suck. The pains in my chest are a lot better and not as frequent. I think I'll just ride it out a while.

I've been going through old family photos for pictures for Grandma's birthday video and they are a riot! We should be shot for the things we all wore back then. It's hard to imagine a time when those outfits, hairstyles, accessories were in style. I guess that's what kids 30 years from now will think about what we're wearing now. Fashion trends sure make for some interesting pictures.

Hello again, hello

It's been a while since I've posted anything of substance. I have to say, the face-in-the-holes were fun to make. I hope you checked out the site and put your own face in there. They just make me laugh out loud.

So, what have I been doing these past days since I've only been posting fun stuff?

I can't remember the last time I wrote a "real" post so I will start with Thursday. I finally made the Pioneer Woman's Best Lasagna Ever". I must say, since this was my first attempt at homemade lasagna, I had my doubts that it would be better than the Stouffer's kind that we like to eat at the lake, but it surpassed my expectations. Very good. So much so, I ate it for lunch the day after and then Mr and I had it again on Friday night for dinner. There was a lot. Here's a picture for you of the finished product.

Can I also say, you must run out right now and buy some of these Anolon baking pans. They are the most awesome ever! Lasagna can be a sticky mess to clean up and this pan practically wiped clean. We got several for our wedding presents and I can't rave enough about them.

On Friday, I decided it was time to go to the dr. See, I've been having chest pains all week. They lasted almost all day and came and went. Since it was 3 o'clock on a Friday afternoon and I was headed to Lima, OH the next day to meet my aunts (more on that later), I thought if it was something serious, I probably needed to get it checked out before the weekend. Long story short, the dr. didn't know what was wrong with me, but sent me to the hospital for a chest x-ray and multiple blood tests. I still don't know the results. He told me not to go to Lima since I would be driving by myself, but I went anyway. Good news is I made it up and back alive; bad news is I'm still having the pains. I'll let you know the results when I do--hopefully today.

On Saturday, boy child was scheduled to arrive from his training session in Texas. Unfortunately, I had this trip planned to Lima for quite a while and couldn't cancel. 2 of my aunts are planning a birthday party for my grandma in November and I offered my assistance since I have a love for planning events. (see practically every post in this blog for proof of that love). Boy child arrived safely, albeit about 1/2 hr late, according to Mr. I proceeded to Lima to spend the day/evening/morning with my aunts and their 2 granddaughters--age 14 and 15. We had a blast! I don't get to see any of them very often so it was so nice to spend time with them and get to know them better. The 14 and 15 year olds were such a delight--quiet, fun, smart girls, not at all like some teenagers I've been around. We had a great day and got a lot planned for g-ma's birthday.

I returned yesterday and headed to Georgetown with Mr, boy child and male child to visit with Mr's family. His sister-in-law was in from California and was having a reunion of sorts at the Fazoli's in Georgetown. Why Fazoli's you ask? Well, her son had a hankering for it and that's where we ended up. We joked with boy child about his travelling here all the way from Italy and then we take him to Fazoli's. However, it wasn't about the food; it was about spending time with people we don't see very often. It was a really fun visit. Here's a picture of the motley crew!

I guess the main part of the last several days' activities has been family. It's interesting to spend time with family, especially if it's family I don't see or know very well. I can see where I get traits that I always wondered about; I see traits that I love that give me hope that since I am related, maybe they are in me and just haven't manifested themselves yet; I find out more about Mr's background and who he is/was/will be. Being around family can be almost like a scientific study of genetics. Very interesting.

How cool!

Check out the new feature I found on blogger and take the poll. Also, if you have any other ideas for future polls, leave me a comment. I also put a new pic at the bottom of the page--something that reflects me a little better.

How true!
