Isn't he precious? I don't know who he is, but he was a passenger on the R Family Cruise and Rosie posted it on her blog. He is just so cute that it made me laugh out loud when I saw him.

What are people thinking?

I'm back!

I'm finally back to real life and I must say, I need the rest. You would think that 6 days at the lake would be extremely restful. If you think that, you obviously haven't been houseboating with anybody I know! Typically, the days are hot and the nights are long. Don't get me wrong, there is an extreme amount of fun had, but not a lot of rest. Just imagine, drinking all day, hanging out in the sun and water and partying all night. Between those activities, there just isn't a lot of time for rest. Priorities, you know. Here's a picture of 3 of us while we were out on a big boat ride on Saturday.

We had a great time and it was so nice to spend some time with friends who I don't get to see very often.

I'm glad I went down early to spend some time with Mr. He got done with work pretty early on Wednesday so we got to go out on the lake. It turned out to be a beautiful day, and we had a lot of fun just tooling around. He left early Thursday morning and I have to say, by yesterday, I was missing him pretty much so I was glad to get home.

Now back to the business of real life here. The focus this week is the shower on Sunday. Cleaning the house needs to be high on the list, but as I've told you all before, I hate to clean so that is going to be struggle for me. I'm working on the menu and think I've got it pretty much nailed down.

Other than that, I am working a few days this week. Unfortunately I'm working Thursday night and that's when Kenny Chesney is in town. I talked to a couple down at the lake and suggested they come up for it, but I didn't know I had to work that night when I made the suggestion. It sucks because I know it would be a fun/good show. Mr and I saw him once about 4 years ago when Gretchen was touring with him. He puts on a good show.

Signing off...for a while

I am leaving to go to the lake today and won't be back until Sunday so this will be my last post of the week--I know you all are disappointed. I'm having a girls' weekend at the lake so I am really excited. Mr is down there now working in the area which is why I'm leaving today.

He said there were huge storms down there yesterday. It sounds like what we had a couple of days ago, except worse. He thinks he saw a funnel cloud through the trees while he was driving! Scary stuff. Thankfully it was short-lived and he is fine.

I have a lot of running around to do today before I leave since I didn't do anything but shower stuff yesterday. I'm glad I did, though. Now I won't feel so rushed next week. All I have to do now is plan the menu.

One other thing, I hit 100 posts 2 days ago. I forgot to mention that milestone. I can't believe I've written that much stuff.

Cakes, elephants and monkeys

Finished product, kinda. It needs something on top.

The top one is my first attempt. The 2nd one is with one of our hand towels and the third is probably the finished product. I wanted to use stuff that she will be keeping and the white thing is a burp cloth. The body of the elephant is made with a blanket that she will also keep. It's a lot harder working with a thick blanket than it is with a towel. His legs come out really bulky and he doesn't stand up really well, but your get the idea.

The monkey's body turned out well, but his head looks like a frog's head instead of a monkey head. I did it the way they said, but it just doesn't look right. I will add eyes and a tongue to him so maybe it will look more like a monkey when I do that.

Yes, folks, it's Monday again. We had a good weekend. Friday night we did end up going back to the fair. I only had an elephant ear which I split with Mr so I was semi-good. It, on the other hand, was all the way good to the max! We split our time between watching the contest horse show and the truck/tractor pull. I may have found another redneck event I could get into. The truck pull is loud and pretty exciting. Granted, they're not running into each other and there were no fires in what we say, but it's pretty good entertainment. Some of the trucks weren't as loud as others...I didn't like that kind.

I saw several people from my past at the horse show. I can't believe they are still showing. Some of them must've been at it for 30+ years now, easy. We wanted to see the barrel racing, but we left at 11 and they still hadn't started it. We watched 4 classes of poles and we were about "poled" out.

All of our parties went well on Saturday. We ended up getting home about 1 a.m. Even with that, the way we spaced the parties really wasn't too exhausting, but it was hotter than the gates of hell during the day. When we were at the birthday party, there was a nice breeze then all of the sudden it stopped and sweat started literally dripping off me. It was weird how quickly it ecame unbearable. Stupid me decided to wear capris all day, too, black ones at that. Note to self: not too smart.

Yesterday we had a wave of hellacious storms come through. Right after we had dinner, the outside got dark as night and then we heard the storm sirens go off. We found out we were under a tornado warning. I proceeded with my storm routine: get my shoes, my purse, our wedding pictures, my wedding rings, my jewelry (that's a new addition to the routine), the portable phone, cell phone, weather radio and head to the basement with the dog and my husband. The husband stayed upstairs last night watching the weather in between electric flickering off and on and the dog stayed downstairs. I floated between the two. When Daisy heard the warning on the tv, she headed down. She hates storms worse than I do. Thankfully all of my photo albums are still in storage in the basement so I don't have them all to haul down there.

Whenever there's a storm with the potential of a tornado, I go through that routine because every time I see pictures of where tornadoes have gone through and they are talking to the victims who've lost everything, the first thing I think about is all of their pictures. You can replace houses, couches, clothes, lamps, etc. but you can't replace pictures. I always find that to be the most heartbreaking part of any natural disaster so I always do what I can to take the things that are irreplaceable to me. Thankfully all it turned out to be was just a really bad storm that passed very quickly.

I'm headed to the lake tomorrow for the rest of the week so I have a lot to get done today. I realized that J's shower is NEXT weekend! I can't believe it's here already. I've started on the diaper cake. I've taken pictures that I will post later today. It didn't turn out exactly like I'd hoped, but it's not bad for a first attempt. I'm also making some other things that I don't think I shared with you all yet so I will keep that a surprise until I post the finished pictures. Again, my first attempt for those so that should be a treat.

I told you about the movie I put together for the girl who's going to be at the lake. It turned out really good. Email me if you want the link because I have it posted on YouTube, but don't want to post the link here. I'm having a problem getting it into a format that's readable on a DVD player, though. Technology is great when you know what you're doing and it does what you want it to do. When it doesn't, it's a royal pain.

My new obsession

Like I need another one, but I do have a new obsession. Last night I started playing around with the movie maker that's on my computer and needless to say, I am hooked. I've made a movie with our honeymoon pictures, a girls' video with the girls who are going to the lake with me next weekend and one with baby pictures of one of the girls' little one. I am going crazy--somebody stop me! I am having a blast! I plan on making one with our wedding pictures, too, but just haven't gotten to it yet. I can't believe my computer comes with this program on it. Too awesome!

We have a busy day tomorrow. I would say a busy weekend, but it's actually just one day. I have a baby shower, then Mr's ex-father-in-law's 75th birthday party then a work party for the now defunct company that Mr and I used to work for. Why does everything always fall on one day? We will have this super busy day then nothing. It should be fun, though, if it isn't still hotter than the gates of hell like it has been.

I think we may be going back to the fair tonight. No, there's not another demolition derby (bummer), but there is a horse show that Mr and I want to see. I've decided that I'm only allowing myself EITHER a funnel cake, an ice cream cone or an elephant ear not ALL of them. I mean, I have to draw the line somewhere, although, the fair does only come to town once a year. I need to tell that little voice to shut up.

Shopping trip

Yesterday I had a mini shopping trip. I have gift cards left over from my birthday and now is the best time to use them because everyone is having really good sales. I love shopping with gift cards. I get my shopping fix, but I don't spend any money. I do find that I'm a lot more picky about what I buy with gift cards than I am when I spend "real money". I weigh every choice because I want to get the most bang from my free bucks. Isn't that weird? You would think it would be the opposite, but it isn't.

I bought the most expensive pair of sunglasses that I've ever owned yesterday. They were $60 and I got them for $30. I know $30 may not be a lot to some people for sunglasses, but for me, that's a lot. I got a cool, pink case with them, too, for free! They are awesome to drive in because they cover my whole eye. Yes, I may look a little like Jackie O...or a fly...but I really like them. I may be the only person in the world who hasn't lost a pair of sunglasses. Well, that's not exactly true. Once I dropped a pair down a port-o-let while I was at a golf outing, but I don't count that because I know where they went and I was drunk. Anyway, I'm so worried about losing these because they are so expensive.

I also got an $89 silk blouse for $24. I never buy high-end, high-quality stuff. I am a budget girl all the way. Truth be told, $24 is high for me to pay for a blouse. Anyway, it's cool and it makes me feel like a rich bitch--even though I paid for it with a gift card.

I also got the cutest pair of shoes at Payless for $7. Yes, $7. I'm tellin' ya, there are some awesome sales going on now. Go forth and shop.

Followup

Here's the track where the magic happened last night. The derby didn't disappoint. Although there were considerably fewer cars in each heat than there have been in the past, it was still awesome. The second heat was the best--lots of good crashes--and the final heat even produced a small fire. No one got hurt so we could hoot and holler guilt-free.

It was awesome! Let's not forget to mention the funnel cake and the ice cream cone with sprinkles. Delish to the max!

My friend C joined us with her 2 boys--4 and 7. It was their first derby and I think they really enjoyed it. One of them even did the "boogity, boogity, boogity, let's go racing". I think their dad has been letting them watch Nascar. It was fun to watch them watching the derby and their reactions to what was going on.

Afterward, we went over to watch the 4-H horse show for a little while. Boy, did that bring back memories. I used to show every year in the Kenton county fair when I was in 4-H. Back then, the 4-H show was Saturday morning. We had a lot of fun because we would be in all of the classes just to participate. That meant that my western pleasure horse had to do english classes and also contest classes. For those of you who aren't into the horse showing lingo, this means he had to severely get out of his element and I did, too. Running barrels and poles as fast as we could goes against everything he was trained to do, namely, go slower and keep his head down. The english classes meant I had to have a different kind of saddle, wear a different outfit, and perform totally differently. It was fun. Thank goodness it only happened once a year, though.

I thought I'd also post the only 2 pictures I took on our river ride last Saturday. I had high hopes of getting lots of pictures since that was my first time on the river, but the day took turns I didn't expect so these were the only 2 I got.

This was a huge river boat we ran across. They looked like they were doing their safety practice when we went by since everyone had their life jackets on and there were announcements being made over the loud speaker. I forget the name--American Belle or something like that--but this thing was huge. It looked like a floating hotel since there were many room doors on there. Pretty cool.

This is kind of a cool shot because you can see a lot of the boat, but also you can see the bridge in the background. It was hotter than the gates of hell that day, but the views were awesome.

Okay, I'd kill someone if they did this to me!
