Mr and I have had a good weekend. Friday was male child's 25th birthday so we all had an amazing dinner at the Melting Pot. If you have one of these near you, you definitely need to make a trip. It was awesome food and fun since you cook the food at the table yourself in fondue pots. It's hard to believe that meat cooks in them, but it does. They finish the meal off with some super yummy melted chocolate of your choice. It was incredibly good.
Last night Mr had a wild hair to go to the casino. He likes to go to the $1 Wheel of Fortune and put in $21. He usually has really good luck and had some last night. At one point he had $150. He cashed out soon after, but then we pissed away a varying amount of it trying some other slots. We figure we ended up about even for the night after it was all said and done.
When we got there, we got a bite to eat at the buffet they offer. By the time we got there it was already about 9:15 and they close the buffet at 10. Well, they had the most awesome crab legs so we got 2 huge plates full of them. We were eating at a frenzied pace because of the time constraint, but we certainly put a hurtin' on them.
I have to work tonight so we're just relaxing around the house right now. After reading what we've done all weekend, namely eat, we should be out running laps. So much for the diet.

My purse needs a diet
I read the other day that your purse shouldn't weight more than 3 lbs. for health reasons so I decided to weigh my purse to see how much I'm actually hauling around every day--4 lbs. Not so bad, but that weight definitely fluctuates immensely. For instance, if we're going out somewhere, Mr has me tote all of his stuff in my purse. We're talking 2 phones, wallet, cigs. Knowing how much my purse weighs with just my stuff now, I think he is trying to sabotage my health or my back.
I figure it's an appropriate sentiment since if I'm carrying it, I'm probably about to do something I shouldn't--shop, drink, or your run of the mill debauchery. It's so great to carry something so small when I'm out and about.
I got a lot chopped off. Actually, it's a little shorter than I wanted it to be, but I guess it will grow! It looks a lot shorter this morning so hopefully I'll get used to it.
Apparently I've had an inkling that I've been hauling around too much weight in my purse because I've been on the hunt for a small wristlet to use when I'm shopping. It's so much easier than schlepping around my big bag. I had a gift card to a local store so this week I bought this little cutie:

Today is cleaning day
It's recently come to my attention that there are actually people who have created a schedule by which to clean their houses. Something like, Monday--dust living room, Tuesday--vacuum living room, etc. Can you believe people actually do this? It's no secret--I hate to clean. so this idea seems extremely foreign to me. Since I've been reading other people's blogs where they actually post their cleaning schedule, I decided that the Mr and I must live like pigs so I'm cleaning today. I've got my iPod cranked and have been pretty motivated until I stopped for lunch. Now, my motivation is waning. Although I'm glad I'm not one of those people who is obsessed with a clean house and at every free moment I have, decide to clean like a fiend (you know who you are!), I do wish I was a little more inspired to keep up on weekly house cleaning. There is a real sense of accomplishment to not see dust bunnies the size of Texas on our coffee table. At the same time, why spend a whole day cleaning when it's only going to get dirty again? Nevertheless, today I have succumbed to the peer pressure and am trying to get the house spic and span. Maybe I need to have a party this weekend so all this "cleanliness" doesn't go to waste. I want other people to get an appreciation for my nice clean house. Hmm.

Lucky ducks
I didn't realize how lucky Mr and I are to have our electric back on. There are still 500,000 people in this area with no electric. Amazing.
Not to be a whiner, but we still don't have our cable working. My aunt who lives farther out in the "boonies" than we do has hers working. How can that be?
Last night Mr and I watched one of the DVD's in the "Planet Earth" series that I got for him last Christmas. That is such a neat series. I'm kinda glad that our cable isn't back on today so maybe we can pick back up where we left off last night.
Since I had so much "free" time yesterday with the electric situation, I decided to put it to good use to do some things I've been procrastinating on. 2 of which were making a fall wreath for my aunt and getting one made for myself as well. I wish I'd taken a picture of the one I made for her--I loved it and would've liked to have kept it for myself. The one I made for myself was a mixture of a wreath I had here that I didn't like the shape and look of so I revamped it some. I used the leaves that were already on it and added the berries, etc. to freshen it up. It's smaller than I would like, but since I was working with something I already had, I'll have to live with it.

Today I've also put together a playlist for my Grandma's birthday party since that was on my list of to-do's. The biggest thing on the list is getting her video together. I've asked her what some of her favorite songs are to get an idea of what songs to use, but they are so old I may not be able to find them! After all, she is going to be 90!
I forgot to update you on the writing experiment I'm in. Last week's picture sucked so I decided not to do a piece for it. Honestly, I was a little ticked that I didn't win the previous week with the Dracula picture so I decided to "show them" and not participate. This week's winner's submission was really good and I would've never come up with anything nearly as clever so I was glad I bowed out. I will just suck it up this week and attempt it again. I have to remember that it's not a competition but a way to make myself a better writer. Plus, I don't even know who is judging these submissions. It could be some illiterate, agoraphobic who is hunkered down in his basement. (I'm thinking "It puts the lotion on its skin" type) If I do "win" though, I'll be sure and post it on here.

The Weather Channel is your friend
Several years ago I made an observation to my friend Bean regarding the viewing habits of her and all of her friends in BG. Every time I went down there, to her house or anyone else's, they were watching the weather channel. Why would someone watch The Weather Channel (TWC) nonstop to see them discussing weather in other parts of the country? Well, I found out why this weekend. Mr and I spent most of our time at the lake watching Ike's movements across the country only to come home and find out that he'd visited here as well.
We came home to no electric, no gasoline due to the no electric, trees down everywhere, pieces of our roof in our yard. It was not a happy sight. Today, at approximately 5 pm, our electric came back on and we are re-connected with the outside world--although our cable is still out. I hear the governor of Kentucky was in our area today in the complex where I work. I guess he was visiting since we are declared a state of emergency. Louisville got hit even worse than us I hear.
Mark my words, as soon as Kroger is re-stocked and re-opened, this girl will be stocking up on nonperishable foods and batteries. I thought getting an emergency kit together was a little silly, but not anymore. Next time, I will be ready.
Obviously, it could've been A LOT worse, but it's an eerie feeling when you know you can't run to the store to get something or turn the channel to watch something or get on the internet to look something up. It's time like those that you really realize how dependent we are on electric. Our world as we know it was paralyzed. All I can say is I'm glad we're back in business!

TGIF!
Short post today. I'm headed to the lake early since I have to meet the heating and air people. We think our air conditioning is going out so it needs servicing. It's raining and crappy here so it should be a fun drive. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Blah!
I feel crappy today. It's that time of the month...probably too much information for you, but there it is. It is extremely cool here today, some might say "cold". You know me, I love the fall weather. I actually got to put on my big, fluffy robe, slippers and socks this morning when I went out. Love it!
Yesterday I had to go to Walmart to pick up my contacts. Of course, I had to look around a bit and picked up a couple of things. One was this really cool cover for my iPod that will keep it from getting scratched up. It was orginally $17+, I don't know the exact original amount because that was as far as the tags went. Anyway, I got it for $8--a good deal if you ask me. When I got up to the registers to pay for my stuff, as usual, they didn't have hardly any lanes open. There were 3 Uscan lanes open and 1 lane where someone was ringing 20 items or less. Way down at the other end of the store, there were 2 grocery lanes open. All of the lanes were majorly backed up. This is one of those "Super" Walmarts (which I hate) and they have every bit of 20+ lanes in the store, but never have more than 2 open. Why have that many lanes if you never use them? Every time I go in that stupid store I say I'm never going back again. Why I continue to go there for anything but my contacts is beyond me. I hate it.
While we (I) are talking about things that irk me, my absolute biggest pet peeve is people who are too lazy to walk their carts to the cart corral. Every time I go to Kroger there are carts all over the place. Sometimes the corrals are literally the next space over. I am not exaggerating. How freaking lazy does someone have to be to not walk their cart over when it's that close? They just leave them right in the middle of parking spaces sometimes so it's impossible to park there. Just ridiculous.
I think that may tick me off even more than non-handicapped people who park in handicapped spots. Again, how lazy do you have to be to park in the appropriate, non-handicapped spot that the rest of us use and walk into the store? I used to leave hateful notes on people's cars who parked in those spaces without a pass but I don't do that anymore. I'm too lazy to write the notes.
